What is lost in the reimagining of cultural identity - what is gained?

ABOUT THE YEARNING TABLE

Moving between Oaxaca, Mérida, and Los Angeles, the film follows the lives of three distinct characters as they walk us through their interpretation of what it means to be Korean.

We examine the complexities of Korean diaspora through both a macro and micro lens, showing intimate portrayals of Korean-Mexicans who are redefining what it means to be “Korean-and.”

As the DOCUMENTARY DEVELOPS these relationships we witness the fluidity of culture, the resilience of heritage, and how both come together around a shared meal.

Using food as an act of translation between cultural, generational, and language barriers, WE weave disparate stories into shared meals around The Yearning Table. These moveable feasts become both symbolically and tangibly a space to find joy in the complexity of identity.
